Whether you’re just beginning on your writing journey, or a published author, or somewhere in between, this retreat will help you create stories to be proud of. The small group (eight, including the facilitator) means you’ll have lots of opportunity to both write and share your work for feedback. You’ll also have opportunity to hear others’ work and to offer feedback. A variety of prompts will be provided, and a completely safe circle created in which to write.
*A.W.A. – Amherst Writers and Artists is an organization founded by Pat Schneider as a way to provide the voiceless with the opportunity to be heard. Her book, Writing Alone and With Others, is a treasure trove of philosophy, methods, and prompts.
The Five Essential Affirmations of A.W.A. are:
1. Everyone has a strong unique voice.
2. Everyone is born with creative genius.
3. Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or educational level.
4. The teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writer’s original voice or artistic self-esteem.
5. A writer is someone who writes.
